Department Wellness Checks
Annual mental health wellness checks are now a best practice—and in some states, a legislative requirement. These checks offer officers a confidential, stigma-free space to talk with a licensed therapist familiar with the demands of police work.
Wellness checks are:
-
Confidential and non-evaluative
-
Culturally competent (first responder-informed care)
-
Focused on prevention, not diagnosis
-
Typically 30–60 minutes, once per year
Why it matters: Regular check-ins reduce burnout, improve performance, and show your department values officer well-being.
Legislation:
-
Tennessee Code § 58-2-126 (2023): Recommends annual mental health wellness checks for first responders.
-
Similar laws exist in states like Texas (SB 1359) and Colorado (HB21-1214).
Let’s build a wellness program that works for your agency—whether you're just starting or looking to expand.
